40 YEARS OF CHILDREN’S FILM AT OBERHAUSEN

40 years of children’s films in Oberhausen

Short films for children have been shown in Oberhausen for the past 40 years. In 1978, the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen invited young audiences to watch unusual films for the first time: animations, fiction films, documentaries and experimental films from around the world. Nine productions from nine countries and spanning four decades are exemplary of this great diversity: they include the humorous documentation of a taste experiment to adventure stories and imaginary journeys into the realm of animals, but also films in which curiosity, anger, rage and reconciliation play the leading role. They give an insight into what short films for children in Oberhausen have been, are, and can be.
