Once again, Tomo’s mother Hiromi has lost her job. She often comes home drunk – until one day she does not come home at all. The eleven-year-old finds refuge with her uncle Makio and his new girlfriend Rinko, a trans woman. To Tomo, quite a few things are unusual about Rinko, not only her appearance: She takes care of the girl with a previously unknown affection and tries to make her feel at home. Due to her new family Tomo is quickly labelled a freak at school – she who until recently had been ashamed of being seen with her gay friend Kai. Tomo has to reposition herself between exclusion and affiliation – until her mother shows up again. A calm film about the search for acceptance and family unity.
