F 1999, Director: Michel Ocelot, 74 min., feature film, OV with English subtitles, released 0, recommended 8

Wunderkind Kirikou could speak since his birth and run incredibly fast. The evil sorceress Karaba has a firm grip on his village and its inhabitants. She made the only well run dry, and all the men who wanted to fight her have vanished without a trace. Now it’s up to little Kirikou to triumph over Karaba. He sets out on the dangerous route to his wise grandfather, who should help him. This parable tells how Kirikou succeeds, through much love, intelligence, and perseverance, to break Karaba’s curse. The film also reminds grown-ups of how important it is to ceaselessly ask »Why« questions – just as children do. (LR)
