D 2016, Director: Florian Schnell, 87 min., feature film, in German, released 6, recommended 10
Instead of cramming for his final high school exams, Jan prefers to move through levels of the online game “Utgard” as the warrior Fenris and spends his days and nights in front of the computer. When his account gets hacked by an opponent, he has to confront the biggest quest of his life. In his journey through the real world, where he has to overcome analogue obstacles and opponents without gold coins and magical powers, he meets the wacky gamer Karo. Teaming up to reclaim their stolen avatars, the two teenagers ultimately discover their true identity. The film’s creative mixture of realism and animation doesn’t demonize computer games; rather it makes an entertaining case for a balance between virtual life and real life. (MK)
Nominated for »Best Young Actor«, Max-Ophüls Festival 2016
»As a single player, you have no chance against a team! That’s how things are in the film, in games, and in real life!«
