SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK / STAGE PLAY

US 2008, R: Charlie Kaufman, 124 Min.
Spielfilm, OmeU, FSK 12

In SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK, hypochondric stage director Caden Cotard attempts to recreate the whole reality of everyday life in a play set in a giant replicated scenery of New York City. The movie is full of shocking and absurd moments, spiced with a dash of cynical humor. The brilliant acting puts us in an awkward position in which we lose ourselves asking: What is real and what is not? Hey, was this a part of Caden’s play or his life? Is it his subconscience or just his miserable life? On top of all that, the film is equipped with a charming music and beautiful moments of silence as well. It’s simply a masterpiece and a thrilling maze of thoughts.
