GB 1985, Director: Terry Gilliam, 142 min., feature film
OV with English subtitles, released 12, recommended 12

In a meticulously surveilled, thoroughly structured and bureaucratized state, the government stops at nothing to detect and locate terrorists. Due to a failure in the Archive of the Department for Information Retrieval of the all-powerful Ministry of Information (M.O.I.), a case of mistaken identity ensues – one with grave consequences. Sam Lowry – until now your inconspicuous average citizen – must find out how the name of a terrorist, Tuttle, could be confused with the name of an innocent ordinary citizen, Buttle. BRAZIL sketches a dystopia that alarmingly continues to resonate with our own time 30 years after its premiere. (SW)

Nominated Oscar®, Academy Awards 1986
