13-year-old Antoine prefers to skip classes and stroll through Paris rather than go to school. Neglected by his parents and misunderstood by his teachers, he and his friend René go to the movies, spend the day at the fair, smoke and shoplift. When Antoine is finally caught stealing, he is sent to an educational institution for delinquent juveniles. There is iron discipline, from which Antoine finally escapes towards the sea.
