IRQ/SYR 2015, Director: Bahman Ghobadi, 73 min., documentary film, OV with English subtitles, released 12, recommended 14
These are the unsettling image of our time: fleeing from war, getting displaced by terrorists, fearing for one’s own life and those of one’s family members, and ultimately landing in a refugee camp. And there? Despondent adults, traumatized children. This moving documentary by the Kurdish filmmaker Bahman Ghobadi shows the world of the refugee camps in Kobanê and Şingal through the eyes of eight young residents. Mentors from the film crew accompany the boys and girls as they capture the world around them with the camera and tell their stories. The courage and openness of the young filmmakers trumps all the fear and trauma. (SW)
