THE DAY WILL COME / DER TAG WIRD KOMMEN / DER KOMMER EN DAG
DK 2016, D: Jesper W. Nielsen, 119 Min.
Fiction, OV with Eng. ST, with German voice-over, released for 12+, recommended for 13+
When the mother of Erik and Elmer becomes seriously ill, the brothers are sent to a home for boys. Beatings and humiliations are commonplace, carried out by the teachers and the apathetic Headmaster Heck. This abuse also leaves its mark on the interaction between the children. The brothers see only one solution: fleeing. With imagery that is both picturesque and gloomy, Jesper Nielsen examines the dismal conditions of children’s homes in Denmark in the 1960s. A touching film with outstanding performers.
Winner of the “Best Children & Youth Film” at Kristiansand International Children’s Film Festival 2017 and the audience awards at Nordic Film Days Lübeck 2016 and Filmfest Hamburg
