CLASSICS

IN THE ‘CLASSICS’ SERIES WE ARE SHOWING MOVING IMAGES THAT HAVE WRITTEN FILM HISTORY. With extraordinary imagery, innovative forms of story-telling or the unforgettable presence of their performers, these films have shaped the development of film as an art form and set new standards. Their stories have elevated social outsiders to become cinematic legends and have spotlighted societal grievances. Individual films caught the spirit of their time and have become embedded in the cultural memory of whole generations.

For today’s young film lovers there is much to discover here: great films and little heroes open up a world of magical film moments. The classics help understand film-historical developments and shed new light on the cinema of today.

»Which filmic experience changed me? The first time I watched an ‘old’ movie: SABRINA (US 1954, director: Billy Wilder) made me become myself .«
