ILUMINADA

ILUMINADA

Poetically told drama in which past, present and future are inextricably intertwined

Iluminada, known as Lumi, was born in Chocó in western Colombia: to this day, this rain-soaked region with its lush flora and fauna is shaped by the cultural traditions of Afro-Colombian and Indigenous communities. Her family now lives in a suburb of Bogotá marked by poverty and gang crime, where there is no room for individual dreams. Lumi processes her recurring visions of past and future—which her aunt calls a gift—into poems that no one ever gets to hear, until she meets Juan. With a calm narrative pace and a brilliant sensitiveness for its characters, ILUMINADA unfolds a poetic portrait of a young woman between memory, spirituality and belonging. Biography

Director Nicolás Rincón Gille presents ILUMINADA, his fifth feature-length film. His work revolves around memory, oral tradition and resistance. In poetic images, he tells of the resilience of Colombia’s population in the face of political violence and poverty—and how they develop resilience through spirituality and community.
