MY FIRST LOVE
MY FIRST LOVE
First love between freedom and constraint
Ella’s biggest wish finally comes true: the 19-year-old is moving to Lillehammer. She’s looking forward to her studies, to meeting new people, and to finally being able to do whatever she wants. But the authorities deny her the personal assistance she depends on as a wheelchair user. Instead of her own student flat, she ends up in a residential home for people with disabilities, where rigid rules dictate her everyday life. When she falls in love with her fellow student Oliver, Ella starts fighting for what many people her age take for granted: freedom, self-determination, and the chance of a completely normal young life. Biography
Filmmaker Mari Storstein tells the stories she wished for herself when she was young: “As a disabled
woman of 39, I’ve never seen myself on the screen.” With her feature debut MY FIRST LOVE, she portrays a young student in a wheelchair. What matters to her is that stories are told by the people they affect.
