1917
1917
A spring-like day on a quiet, flower-covered field in northern France: two young British soldiers are resting in the tall grass, the war seems far away on this day – but appearances are deceptive. Schofield and Blake, barely out of their teens, are given a life-threatening mission: an embassy must be delivered through enemy territory to prevent a massacre. With every step they take through trenches, abandoned farms and destroyed villages, the brutality of war becomes more tangible. The film 1917, masterfully directed by Sam Mendes and carried by a dense, atmospheric sound design, is an intense portrait of a time about fear, courage and growing up under extreme conditions. (SAC)
