CHRISTY
CHRISTY
No Future? “Now, Christy, we need to sort you a plan, and we need to sort it today.”
Christy is what many call a “problematic case”. He is a reserved guy, but every now and then he blows a fuse. After this happens to him one too many times, his foster family throws him out. Where to now? Who will take someone like him in just before his 18th birthday? Christy finds temporary refuge with his half-brother Shane and his wife Stacey in Cork, Ireland – two people he hardly knows. Conditions could be better, not only in his new home, where he feels like an outsider, but also in the working-class neighborhood Knocknaheenywhere jobs are scarce, people are constantly swearing and even children raise their middle finger. But gradually it becomes clear how friendship, family, community and solidarity can make individuals stronger. (KT)

Biography
The Irish director Brendan Canty, known for the music video for “Take Me to Church”, makes his feature film debut with CHRISTY. Brendan’s decision to include foster children not only as a subject but also actively as part of the production in order to bring in authentic perspectives is remarkable: “We wanted them to feel seen.”
