MARY ANNING
MARY ANNING
True story of a girl who turns the world of science upside down with her fossil finds.
Mary doesn’t have time for breakfast. She has to get going. She has to go to the beach, where she regularly searches for fossils. This unusual hobby has earned the twelve-year-old girl, who has also survived being struck by lightning, the nickname “Crazy Mary” at school. But Mary doesn’t let this put her off. She bravely stands up to her teacher in religion class when his stories don’t match her findings. This lovingly and restrained animated film takes us back to 1811 in the southern English town of Lyme Regis and pays tribute to one of the first female palaeontologists. An all-round beautiful adventure story that also tells of a young girl’s self-assertion. (SST)
