OLMO
OLMO
Dance, drive, flirt. Olmo acts like an adult – but he really has to be one. Responsibility included.
At the end of the 1970s: in a suburb of New Mexico, Olmo dreams of Muscle Cars and his beautiful neighbor. But his youth is anything but carefree: like the rest of the family, Olmo has to look after his father, who has multiple sclerosis. Overwhelmed by the daily balancing act between money worries and pent-up emotions, the family members clash time and again – while Olmo tries to find his way through the chaos of puberty. Fernando Eimbcke tells the story of a boy who has to learn what it means to take on real responsibility with a fine sense of absurd family moments. Despite the serious subject matter, the film never loses its lightness. OLMO skillfully balances between coming-of-age, social drama and everyday comedy – with a loving touch of disco. (PP)

Biography
Fernando Eimbcke is a director and screenwriter from Mexico. OLMO is based on personal experiences and is, as Fernando says, “a declaration of love to family, friendship and music that carries us through life”. For him, humor is “the most honest and human way to talk about pain”. His style is inspired by Charlie Chaplin, who created space for tender humor even in sad moments.
