When: SU, Sep. 28 | 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum
ON FESTIVAL SUNDAY (SEPTEMBER 28), LUCAS HAS A GREAT OFFER FOR FAMILIES! »Attention Recording!« lets children get to know different film professions in workshops and hands-on activities. A trip to the DFF means free admission for all family members from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., both to the DFF Cinema and to the exhibitions.
On the Sunday of the festival, LUCAS is all about seeing, asking questions, and getting involved! On the floors and forecourt of the DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum (Schaumainkai 41, 60596 Frankfurt), the workshop program »Attention Recording!« invites children to try out different film professions – from camera, sound, and stunt coordination to make-up, special effects, and animation. Participants experiment together with adult film professionals, ask questions, and experience first-hand how the individual trades work. The workshops are aimed at different age groups from four years old, and registration is possible on site on Sunday morning.
Young festival visitors can look forward to these exciting workshops. More information about start times and the recommended minimum age of participants can be found in the schedule further down this page. Workshops will be held in German.
🎭 GESICHTER VERWANDELN – Vorführung Maskenbild
A makeup artist will apply makeup live on a model to create characters such as the Hulk or an old, wrinkled man and show how realistic wounds are created. Participants can try out small effects such as scratches on their arms themselves.
SCHWEBENDE BILDER – Kamerakran
Professionals will show how a camera crane can be used to shoot smooth pans and spectacular high-altitude shots. Participants will learn what is important in professional filmmaking – from image composition to safety rules.
FEUER UND FLAMME IM FILM – Harrys Spezialeffekte
What actually happens when there’s a fire in a film? Here, children learn how weather effects and flames are created realistically – with protective paste, smoke powder, and special agents. Even a shoe can burn in a controlled manner here!
ACHTUNG, AUFNAHME! – Workshop Filmszene ohne Schnitt
Based on the DFF temporary exhibition “Long Takes. One Shots. No Cuts.,” the children form a film crew and shoot a scene in a single take – without any editing. They take on different roles and learn what to pay attention to when shooting a scene.
KÄMPFEN UND FALLEN BEIM FILM – Die Tricks der Stuntleute
This is all about spectacular action – but without any injuries. Under professional guidance, children try out simple stunts and learn how film stars safely perform seemingly dangerous scenes.
FIGUREN IM ANIMATIONSFILM – Zeichnen mit Marjolaine Perreten
Following the screening of MARY ANNING in the DFF Cinema, Marjolaine Perreten, the creative director of the animated feature, shows children how to use templates to draw the characters from the film from different angles and give them individual traits and emotions.
WIE LASSE ICH BILDER KLINGEN? – Workshop Filmvertonung
In this sound workshop, participants create live sounds for a film scene – using leaves, everyday objects, or digitally. This allows them to experience how important sound, music, and language are for the impact of a film.
Besides the workshops, LUCAS is showing films for all ages from the festival program at the DFF Cinema. The film program kicks off at 10 a.m. with the Short Film Program for »Minis«, followed at 11.30 a.m. by MARY ANNING from the Competition »Kids« (recommended from age 7). This animated film tells the true story of a girl who turns the world of science upside down with her fossil finds. At 1.30 p.m., THE SONGBIRDS’ SECRET (recommended from age 7), another animated film from the Competition »Kids«, will be shown, which deals with the search for identity, family secrets, and friendship. At 3.45 p.m., CHRISTY (recommended from age 15), a feature film from the Competition »Teens«, will be shown. It is about two brothers who must find their way back to each other after a long separation.
If you want to find out more about early visual media and filmmaking before or after your visit to the cinema, you can explore the permanent exhibition on film history on two floors. The temporary exhibition “Long Takes. One Shots. No Cuts.” about film sequences that do not require editing is only recommended for children aged twelve and over and is therefore not suitable for younger children.
