In 1939, the mer­chant Oskar Schindler from the Sudetenland is loo­king for pro­fi­ta­ble busi­ness in German-occu­p­ied Krakow. With the help of his cont­acts as an NSDAP mem­ber, the uns­cru­pu­lous busi­ness­man suc­ceeds in acqui­ring an ena­mel­wa­re fac­to­ry. Schindler uses Jews as cheap labor for pro­duc­tion. But when he rea­li­zed the ext­ent of the sta­te-led per­se­cu­ti­on and exter­mi­na­ti­on of Jewish peo­p­le, his atti­tu­de chan­ged. When the depor­ta­ti­on of the work­force to the exter­mi­na­ti­on camps was immi­nent in 1944, Schindler and his accoun­tant drew up the list that would later be named after him. At the new loca­ti­on of his fac­to­ry in Brünnlitz, all of the appro­xi­m­ate­ly 1,200 Jews expe­ri­en­ced the end of the war in May 1945 and their libe­ra­ti­on. (TW)
