MINIS PROGRAM: STILLNESS AND MOVEMENT

Film was the first medi­um that could record and repro­du­ce move­ment. It was a huge sen­sa­ti­on – big enough to turn ever­y­day things like the arri­val of a train into a box-office hit at the movies. Movement in film crea­tes end­less pos­si­bi­li­ties: Time can run back­wards, brush­strokes come to life and anci­ent pain­tings are trans­for­med into moving worlds to explo­re. The film pro­gram is mode­ra­ted with crea­ti­ve acti­vi­ties and lasts about an hour in total.

A train slow­ly approa­ches us and stops. Some pas­sen­gers lea­ve the train befo­re others get on. Apparently, the audi­ence thought the train was real during the first per­for­mance and fled for fear of being run over. 

Different peo­p­le have dif­fe­rent moms, and they’­re all cool in their own way. But the­re are few things bet­ter than having a mother who is an airplane. 

Some men use tools to tear down a wall. After a while, it col­lap­ses and then rebuilds its­elf as if by magic. An ear­ly movie trick that turns back time. 

Things, peo­p­le, places and move­ments are all con­nec­ted: The ripp­ling of the sea water resem­bles the move­ment of a winds­hield wiper, the move­ments of a hurd­ler resem­ble the flight of birds. 

A pie­ce of food from the beak of a bird beco­mes a human being who wan­ders through land­scapes from pain­tings of Chinese art histo­ry. As a being made up of colors and shapes, he can trans­form hims­elf again and again.
