JULIÁN
JULIÁN
Vibrant story about a world where imagination and identity are as fluid as water
Julián is meant to spend the summer with his abuela, his grandmother, in Brooklyn—someone he has never met before. She cooks strange food and at first struggles to understand the wild ideas Julián has all the time: he’s fascinated by life underwater, and the colourful sea creatures he imagines into existence can even flood a room. When Julián prepares with his friends for a festive parade—where he wants to join in dressed as a mermaid—he and his grandmother have to find ways of dealing with other people’s expectations. It seems that water is what connects them. (RW)
