Sometimes you find hea­ven on the eighth flo­or of a social housing block.

Héloïse has just run away from a care home and urgen­tly needs a place to stay. Mallorie, who is slight­ly older, first res­cues her from a store detec­ti­ve and then offers her a place to sleep in her shared flat: up on the eighth flo­or of a social housing block, in her “hea­ven,” which she shares with her baby, Jenna and Mona. The rules are clear: no lying, and the flat­ma­tes put all their money into a shared fund. Héloïse starts working at the club whe­re the others also work and deals with her much older boy­fri­end. In hea­ven she finds com­mu­ni­ty, but also peer pres­su­re, and even­tual­ly the first cracks begin to show. Bérangère McNeese deli­vers a look at the cho­sen fami­ly in the high-rise that is as empa­the­tic as it is pre­cise and mul­ti-laye­red. (RW)
