THE GIRLS FROM ABOVE
THE GIRLS FROM ABOVE
Sometimes you find heaven on the eighth floor of a social housing block.
Héloïse has just run away from a care home and urgently needs a place to stay. Mallorie, who is slightly older, first rescues her from a store detective and then offers her a place to sleep in her shared flat: up on the eighth floor of a social housing block, in her “heaven,” which she shares with her baby, Jenna and Mona. The rules are clear: no lying, and the flatmates put all their money into a shared fund. Héloïse starts working at the club where the others also work and deals with her much older boyfriend. In heaven she finds community, but also peer pressure, and eventually the first cracks begin to show. Bérangère McNeese delivers a look at the chosen family in the high-rise that is as empathetic as it is precise and multi-layered. (RW)
