THE RAGE THAT FLOWS THROUGH US DOES NOT BELONG TO US

No violence in the house — after separating from her daughters’ violent father and moving into an aunt’s house, this is the most important rule for Eva’s mother. But 16-year-old Eva rebels: She would much rather live with her father, whose excessive life both attracts and worries her in an unhealthy way. He writes melancholy poems, smokes wherever he likes, and compensates for self-doubt with alcohol, sex, and drugs. In vain, she demands love from him and believes she will eventually get it from his friend Dove, with whom he is temporarily living. When Eva’s physical and emotional boundaries are repeatedly crossed, she finally can’t take it anymore. (JK)
