A POSH NEIGHBOUR’S HOUSE, EMPTY FOR THE SUMMER, PROMISES SOPHIE AN ESCAPE FROM HER DREARY EVERYDAY LIFE

15-year-old Sophie lives with her mother, ste­pf­a­ther, five siblings and a baby in a tiny flat. They don’t have much money, so they can’t take a holi­day eit­her. When Sophie lear­ns from her fri­end Jade that she and her par­ents will soon be going to their holi­day home, she sees the oppor­tu­ni­ty and, in an unguard­ed moment, grabs the spa­re keys to the well-hee­led family’s house. While making hers­elf com­for­ta­ble the­re, she meets — as fate would have it — Jade’s older brot­her Stéphane, who was also plan­ning to spend the sum­mer at home. Instead of dri­ving her away, Stéphane lea­ves the door open and invi­tes her to a sum­mer Sophie never expec­ted. (RW)
