HOLLY
BE/NL/LU/FR 2023. R+S: Fien Troch. 104 min. Feature film. Original version. Released from age 12, Recommended from age 15.
A 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL BECOMES A MIRACLE SAINT AND THREATENS TO BREAK UNDER THE WEIGHT OF EXPECTATIONS
15-year-old Holly is pretty, thoughtful and compassionate, but to the others at her school she is the “witch” and doesn’t belong. This impression is reinforced when the girl calls in sick one day and a few hours later a fire breaks out at the school, killing people. Months later, when Holly joins a team of volunteers at the initiative of her teacher to support the grieving, the tide turns: it seems as if the girl can free them from their burden, heal them and even perform miracles. Suddenly Holly is a “saint”. However, this also increases the expectations placed on her, which puts Holly under increasing pressure. A suspenseful drama that not only questions the desire for a savior figure, but also the mechanisms of our society.
