Kisses on the beach at dawn: Art stu­dent Una loves her fel­low stu­dent Diddi and he loves her. But nobo­dy knows that they are a cou­ple, becau­se the young man is offi­ci­al­ly with his child­hood fri­end Klara. Now he wants to tra­vel to his old home to break up with her. He will never get the­re becau­se an acci­dent takes him and many others out of his life. The flags in Iceland are fly­ing at half-mast and Diddi’s con­fi­dants are crying in each other’s arms, only Una does­n’t know what to do with her end­less grief. Everyone only sees Klara’s pain, who now seeks Una’s clo­sen­ess. From sun­set to sun­ri­se, WHEN THE LIGHT BREAKS tells of life and death, hap­pi­ness and sad­ness, and the cer­tain­ty that the sun will rise again in the morning.

Biography

The care­er of Icelandic direc­tor Rúnar Rúnarsson actual­ly began with short films: he recei­ved more than one hundred inter­na­tio­nal awards and even an Oscar© nomi­na­ti­on for his “Crossroads Trilogy”. He pre­sen­ted his first fea­ture film VOLCANO at the Cannes Film Festival, whe­re his fourth fea­ture film WHEN THE LIGHT BREAKS also cele­bra­ted its world premiere
