JAZZY
JAZZY
Of changes, new beginnings, and friendships that last
Jazzy and Syriah are inseparable: the girls take the bus to school together, giggle about the latest class gossip, and play with their favorite stuffed animals. It’s unimaginable to them that anything could ever change. But then Syriah’s family suddenly moves away, and Jazzy has to navigate everyday life without her for the first time. In shimmering images illuminated by the low sun and with great proximity to its actresses, the film tells of life-altering changes and how something new can grow from them step by step. Quite naturally, JAZZY also offers an insight into the life of a Lakota community in present-day South Dakota. (SSt)

Morrisa Maltz

Biography
Morrisa Maltz is an artist and filmmaker from the US. Her second feature film JAZZY intertwines reality and fiction. Maltz’ goddaughter Jazzy and her friend Syriah helped co-write the screenplay: their personal experiences of growing up during the six years of filming—the “transition into a more adult and complex world” that so fascinates the director—form the basis of the film.
