While his wife Mumtaz works as a beautician, Haider has been unemployed for quite some time. Because he fails to live up to the patriarchal role expectations of his Pakistani extended family, he is repeatedly subjected to jibes from those around him. When Haider takes a job as a background dancer in an erotic theatre, he can finally provide for his family, who he leads to believe he is the manager there. At work he falls in love with the performer Biba, who identifies as third gender. In the secret relationship with her, Haider increasingly finds himself, but Mumtaz—now pregnant—grows ever more desperate in her new role as a housewife. (AnG)
