RUN AMOK
RUN AMOK
A teenage girl stages a musical about the very day her high school would rather forget.
Meg was very young when her mother was killed in a school shooting at the school Meg now attends. Now, on the tenth anniversary of the attack, a memorial service is planned. A passionate harpist, Meg comes up with the idea of staging a musical – even with songs she’s written herself! The principal is sceptical; she wants a tactful, uplifting ceremony. Couldn’t Meg just sing “Amazing Grace”? But a teacher supports her – at least at first … As Meg searches for a form for her performance, it raises a host of questions: Who was her mother? Who was the perpetrator? And why does nobody really want to talk about what happened – not even her aunt Val, with whom Meg has lived for ten years? A sad-funny film about pain and loss, creativity and catharsis – or what adults think that is. (RW)
