SYSTEM CRASHER
Bernadette, known as “Bennie”, has already been through a lot in her nine years. Her intense emotions repeatedly erupt into uncontrollable rages and violent outbursts. At heart a cheerful, loving girl, she becomes a so-called “system crasher”, because every attempt to place her in a youth care facility usually fails within just a few days. Bennie’s last chance is anti-aggression coach Michael, who becomes her classroom aide and, with his unconventional approach, manages to reach her. Nora Fingscheidt’s challenging feature debut is deeply affecting, telling the story unflinchingly but without demonizing a young person who falls through every social safety net. (JW)
