LUCAS for Families

ON FESTIVAL SUNDAY, LUCAS HAS A GREAT FAMILY OFFER IN STORE! A trip to the DFF on October 8 means free admis­si­on for all fami­ly mem­bers until 5 p.m., both to the DFF’s cine­ma and to the per­ma­nent and spe­cial exhibitions.

“LUCAS for Families” has some­thing in store for every age group: the “Minis” short film pro­gram “Formenspiel” for the youn­gest visitors:inside, the com­pe­ti­ti­on films ROSA AND THE STONE TROLL for child­ren ages 6 and up, and NINA AND THE HEDGEHOG’S SECRET for child­ren ages 7 and up. Teens and adults can expe­ri­ence the film DELEGATION — a dis­cus­sion-wort­hy Israeli film in which class trip dyna­mics meet memo­ry culture.

Those who want to mar­vel at the diver­si­ty of visu­al media of the 18th and 19th cen­tu­ries as well as the inven­ti­on of film befo­re or after a visit to the cine­ma will learn two flo­ors up how the pic­tures lear­ned to walk. The spe­cial exhi­bi­ti­on WEIMAR WEIBLICH — Women and Gender Diversity in Weimar Cinema (1918 — 1933) shows chan­ges that the 1920s brought to the fema­le gen­der and explo­res how cine­ma addres­ses gen­der roles and rela­ti­ons as a who­le. Free gui­ded tours are offe­red through both the per­ma­nent and spe­cial exhibitions.

In the foy­er, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., the DIALOGMUSEUM team offers the open, playful work­shop for fami­lies Hear the Picture. In this work­shop, kids beco­me pic­tu­re descrip­tors for their par­ents, who — based on the well-known TV show 1, 2 or 3 — are asked to choo­se from three film images the one that was descri­bed to them by their child. In this way, the young par­ti­ci­pan­ts will learn how blind and visual­ly impai­red peo­p­le can also per­cei­ve the visu­al dimen­si­on of a film with the help of audio descrip­ti­ons. In addi­ti­on, in the foy­er the­re are various craft sta­ti­ons to be dis­co­ver­ed, whe­re roll-up cine­mas, fri­end­ship brace­lets and but­tons can be made.

The “MiniCine” by the artist coll­ec­ti­ve Taartrovers, which was con­cei­ved as part of “Cinemini Europe 2,” is being used for the second time at LUCAS: a por­ta­ble, mul­ti­func­tion­al inter­ac­ti­ve instal­la­ti­on on the the­me of film, pro­jec­tion and move­ment. Children can explo­re it inde­pendent­ly and expe­ri­men­tal­ly, watch all the films in the Cinemini cata­log in the instal­la­ti­on, explo­re the con­cept of pro­jec­tion, expe­ri­ment with sound and play a thaumatrope.

For the second time, the aid orga­niza­ti­on IsraAID Germany e.V. is sup­port­ing LUCAS in making the fes­ti­val Sunday a posi­ti­ve expe­ri­ence for Ukrainian fami­lies as well. To this end, the team will be on hand at the minis pro­gram “Formenspiel”, for exam­p­le, to pro­vi­de trans­la­ti­on assis­tance as needed.
