LUCAS for Families

When: SO, Oct. 8 | 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Where: DFF — Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum

ON FESTIVAL SUNDAY, LUCAS HAS A GREAT FAMILY OFFER IN STORE! A trip to the DFF on October 8 means free admission for all family members until 5 p.m., both to the DFF’s cinema and to the permanent and special exhibitions.

“LUCAS for Families” has something in store for every age group: the “Minis” short film program “Formenspiel” for the youngest visitors:inside, the competition films ROSA AND THE STONE TROLL for children ages 6 and up, and NINA AND THE HEDGEHOG’S SECRET for children ages 7 and up. Teens and adults can experience the film DELEGATION — a discussion-worthy Israeli film in which class trip dynamics meet memory culture.

Those who want to marvel at the diversity of visual media of the 18th and 19th centuries as well as the invention of film before or after a visit to the cinema will learn two floors up how the pictures learned to walk. The special exhibition WEIMAR WEIBLICH — Women and Gender Diversity in Weimar Cinema (1918 — 1933) shows changes that the 1920s brought to the female gender and explores how cinema addresses gender roles and relations as a whole. Free guided tours are offered through both the permanent and special exhibitions.

In the foyer, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., the DIALOGMUSEUM team offers the open, playful workshop for families Hear the Picture. In this workshop, kids become picture descriptors for their parents, who — based on the well-known TV show 1, 2 or 3 — are asked to choose from three film images the one that was described to them by their child. In this way, the young participants will learn how blind and visually impaired people can also perceive the visual dimension of a film with the help of audio descriptions. In addition, in the foyer there are various craft stations to be discovered, where roll-up cinemas, friendship bracelets and buttons can be made.

The “MiniCine” by the artist collective Taartrovers, which was conceived as part of “Cinemini Europe 2,” is being used for the second time at LUCAS: a portable, multifunctional interactive installation on the theme of film, projection and movement. Children can explore it independently and experimentally, watch all the films in the Cinemini catalog in the installation, explore the concept of projection, experiment with sound and play a thaumatrope.

For the second time, the aid organization IsraAID Germany e.V. is supporting LUCAS in making the festival Sunday a positive experience for Ukrainian families as well. To this end, the team will be on hand at the minis program “Formenspiel”, for example, to provide translation assistance as needed.
