FESTIVAL

This year LUCAS presents films from 27 countries – more variety than ever before!

The cultural diversity of our location, Frankfurt, and our shared interest in film, language, and culture connect us – something that will also become clear at LUCAS: we’re increasing the number of screenings in the original language.
And: we have a new look – our logo features two curious eyes, staring out at the world. They rotate like a reel of 35mm film and look directly at their audience, inviting you to engage in dialogue.

Starting this year, LUCAS will also address teenagers. The program will be divided into three sections:

4 and up / 8 and up / 13 and up

Also new is the 16-and-up program »Young European Cinephiles«, curated by young adults for young adults.

While our slogan »Participate!« primarily addresses children and teenagers, LUCAS also offers a platform to film professionals. Since 2016, the festival has been housed within the German Film Institute’s Department of Film Education and Teaching. The German Film Institute’s knowledge base and network contribute to LUCAS’s work throughout the year.
For the first time, on September 21-23, 2016, the German Film Institute and the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) are putting on a parallel international conference and future-oriented workshop entitled »Film, Escape & Interculturality«
Through its clear and unmistakable focus on participation LUCAS distinguishes itself nationally and internationally within the festival landscape

LUCAS guests don’t just bring their films along; they are especially excited for the discussions with the audience. Amid the lively festival atmosphere, the new festival lounge offers the opportunity for intense conversations in quieter surroundings.

Beyond this, we encourage you to visit the third floor’s family-friendly exhibition »The Artistry of Aardman. Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep«, which vividly demonstrates how animation films are made.
